Department of Defense Travel Management Office: Defense Travel Management Office Traveler Course Development

The Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO) was set up (in early 2006) for the purpose of consolidating and improving commercial travel oversight and management within the Department of Defense (DoD).  Since its establishment all activities pertaining to DoD commercial travel related functions, including policy, travel guidance and procedures, the government travel charge card program, customer support and training, have been guided and managed by the DTMO.

DTMO identified the need to develop a comprehensive commercial travel training program in order to meet the evolving training requirements. Tata Interactive Systems (TIS) was commissioned to develop a DoD Traveler Course that effectively covered all DoD commercial travel related topics, including Travel Policy, City Pair, Rental Car, Travel Card, and the Defense Travel System (DTS). The DoD Traveler Course was developed in both Web-based Training (WBT) and Instructor-led Training (ILT) formats.  Learners successful in completing end of course assessments were awarded course completion certificates. This course was designed to be Section 508-compliant.
